AMERICAN CITIZENSHIP
American Citizenship, which is also known as American Nationality, is the state or status of a person who accredits him as a legal member of the United States, thus obtaining all the rights, immunities, privileges and benefits that this entails, whether political, social and economic, as well as federal assistance. People born in the United States are considered citizens, but it is not limited to this, since foreign people can also choose citizenship through a process known as “Naturalization”.
Naturalization is a process that grants American Citizenship to a non-US citizen, a foreigner; after it has complied with the requirements established by the Immigration and Nationality Act, or INA for its acronym in English, in the United States Congress. The duration of the process of obtaining citizenship varies depending on the situation, as each one is different. The agent who manages all immigration matters and who coordinates this process is called the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service, or USCIS.
HOW TO OBTAIN AMERICAN CTIZENSHIP
There are different requirements that must be met according to age, marital status and / or military service; however, you must be at least 18 years of age and have a Permanent Residence, or Green Card. The next thing is to fill out the N-400 form along with the relevant documents and the payment of the $ 640 form. This application will be reviewed by the USCIS and will schedule an appointment where they will take your fingerprints. After this, you must attend an interview and then take the Naturalization Exam; You have to prepare very well for this one as its study guide consists of 100 questions to learn.
A USCIS officer will evaluate the test and ask 10 questions from the 100 questions in the guide on a Civic Test, to pass this part of the exam you must answer 6 of the 10 questions correctly. The next part of the exam is an English test consisting of 3 subparts: An oral exam, where your ability to speak English will be assessed; a reading test, where you must read one or two sentences in English; and a writing exam, where you will have to write 2 or 3 sentences in English. This English test is mandatory; however you can request a disability or age exemption.
This entire process to obtain citizenship is extensive but worthwhile. Obtaining citizenship takes time, but one mistake can make you lose it completely. You can lose your citizenship for lying in the naturalization process, for treason, for applying for citizenship in another country, for serving in a foreign army, or even if you voluntarily renounce it.
The requirements to apply to the naturalization process may vary depending on the circumstance, however there are some that are always present: You must be of legal age, you must have completed a period of 5 years as a permanent resident, have been in the United States at the minus 30 months of the 5 years stipulated as a permanent resident, being able to read, write and speak in English, must have knowledge of the history of the United States and be a person of good conduct and moral ethics, who respects the laws already their peers.
The steps towards citizenship, with the passage of time, have been made less and less. We hope that you can soon enjoy your citizenship and that you can obtain it in a gratifying and full way, sovereign and with national identity.
